Calgary Storm Sign David Weibenga

Calgary Storm is pleased to announce the signings of Sean Fraser, striker, and David Weibenga, goaltender, for the 2003 season. Fraser, a native of Edmonton, attended the Unversity of Memphis. He finished fourth in the U.S. in scoring in 2001 , was named to the 2001 NCSAA/Adidas All Midwest Second team , a nominee for the Umbro 2001 Classic among the numerous awards, and leading scorer in Conference USA in 2001. Sean has been a member of the Canada U-20 team and the Canada U-23 team during the last Francophone Games. 

"Sean brings terrific speed to our attack and great penetration to our game. With a good work ethic and attitude, Sean can perhaps move to the next level. The physical attributes are there, the next step depends on Sean", said Tommy Wheeldon, Calgary Storm A-League coach. David Weibenga, 24 years old, 6' 2" tall, 185 lbs.,a graduate in 2001 of Truman State University in Missouri, spent 1999-2001 as a stater for the Kansas City Brass in the PDL. After the PDL, David spent the remainder of the 2001 season as a trainee with the Kansas City Wizards of Major League Soccer.  

Weibenga spent 2002 with the Arizona Suahros of the D3 League before finishing the fall training at Gronigen of the Dutch Eraviste. "David has shown well in practice and we are hopeful he can continue his good showing in games. He brings a commanding presence to the field and has the basic tools necessary to be a competitive goaltender in this league." said Tommy Wheeldon. Weibenga garnered many accolades during his tenures in college and the PDL. Like Fraser, Weibenga was also a nominee for the 2001 Umbro Classic.
